Branding - it's so much more than a logo

Shaunna Huhnke • February 26, 2024

Branding is creating a strong and thought-out visual identity that tells your story. No matter what your business, your branding should be authentic and honest. You cannot personally introduce each potential customer to your business – your brand does this for you! You want it to be relatable, you want it to show your personality, and you also want it to build trust.

How do we accomplish this, Shaunna? I’d love to tell you!

Most importantly, your brand should first convey the following things:

- Who you are

- What you do

- What you stand for

and

- Why it matters

When I work with my clients on brand development, these points are the very first thing we’ll nail down together. Another key element is your tone and vocabulary – or your voice. A great example of these will be in your tagline, which can convey your tone and personality in a catchy one-liner!

Next step: have your brand tell your story in a way that will vibe with your audience.

How is this achieved? Through design!

And yes, a logo is usually step number one in this process. However, you should also purposefully develop your branding typography, color palette and even textures and patterns, if beneficial.

Once we’ve developed a comprehensive look for your brand, the final step is crucial! You can have all these items in place, but if you are not using them correctly and consistently – your brand is not well represented or conveyed. This is where brand strategy comes into play.

A crucial part of brand strategy is showcasing your individual branding across every platform that your business uses to communicate with your audience! You should have a cohesive look that is used consistently in your marketing and advertising materials, on all your social media pages, your business card, letterhead, packaging and your website. This cohesiveness builds brand trust.

At the end of my brand development process with my client’s, I provide them a brand style guide or “Brand Board.” It’s your essential tool to help manage your brand consistency moving forward.

I would like to use my skills and knowledge to help small businesses. So, I hope you'll check out my services! And if it's not listed, please inquire - perhaps I can help!
